Suburb Skates

Online Web Store

About

Suburb Skates is a project I completed during my fourth term at BCIT.  I was tasked to demonstrate my ability to implement a responsive online store utilizing WooCommerce on WordPress, along other plugins that extends the front-end functionality of the website. The layout was designed using Elementor, which made it easy to apply motion effect animations to the images and text.

Brand Identity

Although brand identity was not a major component of the assignment, I made use of my personal passion for skateboarding and cultivated a brand identity that was easy for me to represent.  I embraced the suburbs because the suburbs are typically boring, unless you make it fun.  Skateboarding thrives where there is not much else to do.

Process

For the product designs, I made use of my own photographs and artwork, as well as interesting public domain images.  Mockups of decks, wheels, skateboards, and longboards were all generated at customskateboards.com fairly quickly.  After all my content was ready, I created product listings with the WooCommerce plugin and accompanied all the products with appropriate specs and information.  However, as a contingency, I listed the products for $0.25 incase I accidentally bought one.

Final Result

The finished project ended up being a really neat online store with animated components and a functioning checkout cart that looks great on desktops computers and mobile devices.
